Common Questions and Answers

Will Rid-A-Fish harm my livestock?

No, Terrestrial animals including humans and livestock are very good at processing ammonia (the toxic ingredient in Rid-A-Fish).  A person would have to drink over 1000 gallons of treated water to get the same amount of ammonia into their body that the average human producers naturally in 1 day from normal metabolism (and cattle are even more efficient at processing ammonia and excreting it than humans).

How to I know if I put enough in?

This is one of the real advantages of Rid-A-Fish.  A simple aquarium water test kit for ammonia will tell you if your dosage is correct.  Just take your water sample, add the drops as indicated and if it turns dark green you know its toxic.

How long until I can res-stock my pond?

Your pond will typically return to baseline conditions within 3 weeks.  Always test using your water test kit before restocking.

Does water temperature matter?

Yes, the colder the water the longer Rid-A-Fish will stay toxic, but it works well in warm water too.

Will Fish be able to sense Rid-A-Fish and swim away?

No, This is another real advantage of Rid-A-Fish.  Fish do not sense it or try to avoid it.

Do I have to mix the water to get an effective fish kill?

No mixing is required! Rid-A-Fish is extremely soluble and will diffuse throughout your pond - yes even into thick beds of vegetation!

Can I salvage some of the fish I want to keep?

If you are able to catch any fish you want to keep while they are partially alive at the surface you can put them into a bucket of fresh water with a pH below 7 and they will recover.

Is there any way to detoxify Rid-A-Fish?

The toxicity of Rid-A-Fish is pH dependent.  So if you want Rid-A-Fish to detoxify - reduce the pH using muriatic acid.  This is also how you would detoxify Rid-A-Fish when using it for treatments in stream systems.

Do I need a permit?

Rid-A-Fish is not yet liscensed and registered as a piscicde and therefore is only available for use on private land.

How much is shipping? - I need a lot of Rid-A-Fish.

Rid-A-Fish can be heavy, especially when treating very large ponds.  If you need large quantities of Rid-A-Fish (A pallet or more) for your project - contact us and we can arrange to send a truck to your location.
